Baptism

What is baptism?

Baptism is not essential for salvation, but is a commandment for all those who come to faith in Jesus Christ. Baptism is a public declaration of faith in Jesus Christ. It is an act of celebration, obedience, and commitment, and we will celebrate together as we see others being baptized. (Acts 2:38, Colossians 2:11-13)

Baptism is part of a believer’s journey to becoming more like Jesus. It is not essential to salvation, but it is an outward act of commitment to show what already happened in your heart—much like putting on a wedding ring is a symbol of your commitment to marriage. We believe that baptism is an important step of obedience for every person who has accepted Christ as his or her Savior.

We encourage everyone who has made a decision to follow Jesus to take this next step and be baptized, whether you have been baptized before or not. We also love to baptize children who have made their own profession of faith in Jesus, but we do want them to be old enough to understand salvation and the decision to be baptized, which is why we do not baptize infants or toddlers. We have resources and information for your kid to understand salvation and baptism. You can get that information at this link.

Baptism is a public declaration of an inward faith. It is a personal declaration that we choose to identify with Jesus. At Front Range we practice immersion baptism. The act of being baptized—going under the water and then reemerging—symbolizes Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection into new life. When we declare faith in Jesus, we put our old life of sin to death and we are raised to new life in Christ.
